Brothers and Sisters of CR, I have been to the mountain tops and have seen the light!! I have walked on hallowed ground, I have communed with the saints,er Oroboyz!! On friday at the Handlebar and Grill, I met our illustrious webmaster Dale(always the professional), vintage expert Mike Kone, Ken Wallace(the lucky guy who bought the salmon colored Singer from JFC), Maurice from Boston(chief wrench for Mike's display), Jeff "first flight" Archer and many other (in)famous people. They were glassy eyed from the trip and setting up their displays, and from making deals with other vendors before the show opened!!(next time I'll volunteer to help)
Saturday was very special--Mike Kone's display was stunning enough that the pink and green haired mtb dudes even stopped to view!! A 1972 Singer touring, the most pristine Peugeot PX10 in existance,a beautifully chrome lugged Carlton,2 highwheels, a 17 lb Fontalloy from 1950!, a Masi track bike with wooden rims, two 1940's Rene Herses(a chrome tandem with 650m rough stuf wheels and a gentlemen's tourer) and several more. But the real treat was at Mike's house where we entered the inner sanctum(basement) and saw 6 ReneHerses, several Singers, (gasp) a Mario Confente, a Baylis painted Masi, a repainted Urago by JFC, and more classic componets than I have ever seen or read about!! It was fun watching John"whirlwind"Barron and his tag-team member Greg"rocketscientist"Parker, et all, salivate!! I realize that most CR listies have forgotten more than I know ,but I'm working on it. Which leads me to ask, what are some other holy grails? Thanks for your time, Steve(proud of the soon to be national champs Oklahoma Sooners)Kistler in OKC
