You may be right about the prices changing depending on your closeness to a velodrome. I must disagree about the "fixed price" of a Campy track group though. While living in Seattle I bought 3 different groups or full kits and never paid more than $200. If you're spending more than $150 on Campy track hubs, cranks, bb, and headset you're spending too much. Remember we're talking 70's-80's used stuff here. $300 is a fair price if the group includes the seatpost and is in very good to NOS shape. This is just my experience and maybe the stuff is really worth much more the further away from a velodrome you get. Track stuff in Seattle is a buyers market but I think people may be basing their impression of prices on Ebay prices which is a sellers market for sure.
