I have had a Medaille d'Or 28 hole rim, which I laced onto a Hi-E hub, and installed the resulting wheel on the front of my '75 Jack Taylor Curve Tube over 20 years ago. Although the bike was once my only transportation, it hasn't been used much in the last 10 years, but the entire wheel is still in excellent condition. And although I now weigh quite a bit more than the 160 pounds of my past, I do get it out for several gentle, and shorter rides each year. The Hi-E hub is older than the rim too. The fact that more weight is over the rear wheel on that bike than most bikes, just may have a lot to do with the rim surviving so long. Incidentally, the rear wheel is a Campy Record LF with a Martano 280 gram rim, 36 hole tied and soldered, and it's been around longer than the Medaille d'Or.
