The space between the pump pegs (peg point to peg point) on the down tubes of both of my Peugeot UO-8s is ~18.5 inches. I found a perfect replacement for the original Ventolux pump: the Solibloc traditional pump from Zefal (see http://www.zefal.com/anglais/indexpompesang.html).

While the Zefal homepage doesn't facilitate electronic retail, it does have a link to a European e-tailer, which lists the Solibloc (when you select United States for availability) for $13.26 ($11.77 plus $1.49 S&H).

Now the bad news/good news: The down side is that the only color (currently) available from the e-tailer is black. However, I went to my local bikestore and ordered two silver/brushed aluminum colored ones. While it took about a month for them to come in, the wait was worth it -- I was able to get mine for $10.99 each. They look great and fit perfectly! (Don't forget to specify whether you want presta or schrader valves).

FYI, I was surprised to discover that Christophe toe-clips are also Zefal product -- I also ordered a large pair and paid $7.99.

The moral to this story is that if you can resist the near instant gratification of ordering on-line, then tearing open a Fed-Ex package a couple of days later, you can 1) use the web to research what you want, 2) place the order through your local bike shop, and 3) depending on your local bike shop, sometimes get what you want without having to pay for shipping because they piggy-backed your order onto their regular/monthly order to the wholesaler. Hey, everybody wins!

Hope this helps.
