Well, I've been chasing this nonsense for 25 years. In my opinion, there is no reason for replacement decals to be available to hobbists and collectors. Although the potential to misrepresent something certainly exists, I've never seen it in a believable fashion in over 30 years of messing with this stuff. Its too much work, and the potential profit it not large.

Like anything in life, anyone who spends big bucks on something without verifying its reality with someone in the know is way foolish.
I could put some Fender decals on my Japanese copy Strat, but I doubt anyone but a complete moron would be fooled.
