Greetings from Olympia, Washington's capital and close to epicenter of last week's earthquake. My first message from Dale after subscribing to the list suggested that new members introduce ourselves, and our bikes.

I have been collecting bicycles since I was old enough to ride them. And at almost 43, I still have the frame of the first bike I ever owned -- a Stingray-style frame my father spray painted for me in the second grade.

Bikes I have today -- minus those balloon-tire and modern things (Cinelli mountain bike) that don't belong in these parts:
   * A 1961 Hetchins Vade Mecum with curly stays. (Thanks Len for the info!) It came from London and I found it through rec.bicycles.marketplace several years ago, just at the time my father -- still an enabler in my collecting -- was there, too.
   It has a rather amateurish repaint with replacement decals and an unpainted repro headbadge. It also has a strange mix of parts, most of which are not proper vintage.
   I have a Huret front hand-shift derailleur that I'd like to put on there. Can anyone tell me if that is the proper vintage?
    Other than early Campy, which is largely out of my financial reach, any suggestions on interesting parts that might have found themselves onto a '61 Hetchins?
    * A 1962 JRJ, which I’ve been told is what Bob Jackson called his bikes before he put his own name on them. It is a beautiful bike, all chrome, Nervex lugs, braze-ons for handlebar shifter cables and other bits, and nice red panels on the head and seat tubes.
   * A 1972 all-chrome Paramount with all original parts.
   * A 1979 "Early," a bike custom built for me by Gary Earl Hale in Eugene, Oregon. Does anyone know where he is today? The bike is still as fun to ride and look at as the day I first put it together.
    * Early '80s, I think, Colnago with the Ofmega and misc. parts all engraved "Colnago."
    Sorry to go on so long. I've thoroughly enjoyed reading all your posts and have been inspired to get going on some projects that have sat for too long.
    Thanks for reading this far,
