Wayne, do I detect a little good-natured sarcasim in your post concerning the high bid? You're obviously not looking for these to complete a project I'm guessing?
The "open C" would refer to the type style used in the logo on the shifter. The "C" is a half-circle shape, instead of the later logo with the almost closed-circle "C." I _think_ the change came around 1958 with the introduction of the new, one-piece alloy hubs. (Anyone have any info one this?)
There are many variations in the thicknesses of the shift levers and even slight variations in the length! Notice that the shifters in the auction have the pan-head tension screws and not the optional "D" ring tension screws.
As with most things, the older and rarer something is equates with higher values...
