Subject: [CR]novice pedal question

My apologies if this is not a very smart question.

On a Motobecane and a Peugeot I acquired recently, the Lyotard and MKS pedals, respectively - specifically on the left side - are binding up after a mile or two of riding. This has occurred after regreasing the innards of each, but the MKS pedal, at least, was doing this when I acquired the bike, too. Can anyone advise what is happening and what can be done to remedy this, other than getting off and adjusting the washer and locknut every few hundred yards? (Could the grease be part of the problem? An LBS recommended for my biking needs a white, synthetic grease called CODA Mountain Extreme Grease, which I've tried to use a bit sparingly, but still seems to leave moving parts tackier than most of the old grease that had been on them previously).

Thank you very much for any help you may be able to provide.
