HI Scott, In response to your questions on decent and ascent handling, there are many variables that need to be considered; BB height, (center of gravity), head tube angle, fork rake, fork height, chain stay lenght, and alignment. Tubing thickness and composite have an effect also. All these things can and will effect the ride. Also, frame "fit" has an overall effect on the ride. If your front center is off, there is too much weight either forward or backward, effecting your handling. (Kinda like riding a horse). Bigger frames tend to be more whippy, especially if the frame designer doesn't have a clue on body sizing and corresponding dimensioning. I hope I answered a bit of your question. If you have more questions, feel free to send me a email. I'll do my best to explain more to you. Sincerely Yours, Anthony Mezzatesta Master Framebuilder
