531 main tubes did indeed come in straight (aka plain) gauge (cheaper), as well as butted (more expensive).

If I remember correctly, plain gauge 531 tubes were 20 gauge, aka 0.9mm or 0.036"

Anyone like to let me in to the story behind the term "straight gauge 531" - I thought all the 3 main tubes were "butted" in a full 531 set or am I mising something here.
