Well, now I've done it......

I put a pair of perfectly good (I supposed) but very dirty Super Alfa cp brakes in a small bucket, covered them with Zep Biodegradable degreaser, and put the bucket on the clothes drier---a poor man's ultrasonic cleaner. I often do this but always before with a white porcelain bucket or print developing tray

They are much cleaner now but the finish is a very dull mottled grey. I believe I can restore the finish along with the Suntour VGT that was in the bucket with them. But what is really strange is the way the pad bracket slot is now cracked through at the spring groove. There was a white powdery bloom at that point when I took it out of the Zep.

Whatever caused it, just consider this a cautionary tale.

And I now need a right side brake arm.

Anyone have one in their scrap parts box?

Thanks! Calvert Guthrie Kansas City......where its cooling down enough for an evening ride.
