There seems to be a shortage of cone parts locally and have had difficulty getting the correct dia/length/threads for my purposes when restoring some older bikes. I Have a query about whether it is possible to regrind B/B axles and hub cones using a lathe and Dremel to remove pits in the surface then re polish the surface. The results look fine and it would solve my supply problem, but do the cones need to be heat treated to provide long lasting results?
