I was assembling a new Raleigh Grand Prix in '72 or 3, and one front dropout didn't look brazed. Don't remember what clued me in, but to see for sure, I took the wheel out and rapped once on the fender eyelet with whatever little wrench I was holding. The dropout fell on the floor. I guess that's why they call 'em "dropouts".

My boss the shop owner was actually mad at me, as if the fork was fine until I tapped on it... He was later convicted of racketeering - not really related, but not really unrelated either in my opinion.
