The OTB discussion does get the hair up on the back of my neck. About 1970, I found a wonderfully light OTB frameset, with brazed on rear pannier carrier, in the back of a bike shop in Woonsocket, R.I. Built it up, and beloved spouse toured with it for several years. I was able to track down pieces of the Charlie Hamburger story, but as usual gained a lot from Sheldon's info.

In the early 70s, I tried hard to buy the only other one I ever say, a complete and original touring model owned by a friend on the faculty at Oregon State. He loaned me his Jack Taylor tandem for a year, but wouldn't part with the OTB. Good taste.
