Modern race bikes in either steel or aluminum do not last very long at all when used as intended. Strong riders (that's not me) often break lightweight oversize steel and aluminum within a season. I imagine those exotic Colnago C-40's die before too long also. They are certainly not intended to last long enough to have UV degradation become an issue (though I'll bet that the paint makes this a non-issue). You simply can't build bikes as light as the new race bikes using any material currently available and have them ride well and last. New frames weigh under three pounds. Yikes!

If you want a bike that will stand up to continuous use for 40 years even SP won't make the cut. It will either rust away or crack.
