Here are taper dimensions I measured from the stock TA spindle on an early 70's Jeunet and a Shimano UN-72. Made by a software guy with a cheapo dial vernier caliper:

TA Shimano Width at end 12.5 12.5 Width at shoulder 13.9 13.5 Length, end to 18.0 15.5 shoulder Calculated taper 2.3 1.8 (degrees)

I'd love to see corroborating measurements made by someone with better tools that knows how to use them.

At the time I made these, it looked close enough to try. But it wasn't really an issue for me since the only french BB I had was the TA!
