Do not ask me where, but I remember reading (if my memory is still correct?) an interview with Mr Colnago, in which he stated that having seen others use straight forks, he was still not sure it was possible until he had built some forks himself. So perhaps he did not do it first, he just popularised them by putting them on all his factory built frames.
