Yeah, but I find even a single mm of seat height adjustment makes a difference and I don't like to mess up my seatpost position unless I have to.

Fortunately, I don't own any bike where "seat tube clamping isn't even possible." Everything in the house, with the possible exception of one or two kids bikes that have seat tubes too short for the clamp, anyway, is steel, round, and of normal (1-1/8" diameter) dimensions.

All cautions have been duly noted, however, and I do sometimes just hang the bike over the clamp by the saddle (or clamp the top tube or whatever else I need in order to get the job done.)
