Highpath are a very small two man business in the depths of Wales. A very reliable source of odd chainrings:

There is a web address but I haven't tried it: http://www.highpath.net

Some subscribers were a little critical of the service from Nick Tythcott since he moved (or should I say started building a house). I just bought two sets of transfers from him and he responded by return of post.

Now, Hilary's mech. Someone said that they'd bought one from Freewheel in London. This jogged my memory. Freewheel was the Brit eqivilent of Bikeology. I now remember that's where that I bought one of these mechs for myself from in the late seventies. They were also in their Freewheel catalogue in 1979. I even believe it was marketed as a 'unique to us' product. I have searched for the catalogue but alas it has gone.

I also was a supplier to Madison who owned the Freewheel catalogue and can recall one conversation where they talked about how they sourced some of their Campy parts direct from Italy and that after one of the shows they also bought up some batches of unusual items that were not on the general list - ie prototypes that were made in batches of hundred or so which were put into stock but never actually widely distributed. Bearing in mind that Madison were aiming at the touring market, they would have made a beeline for an upmarket touring mech like this.

Does this help or hinder?
