Hi Everyone,

I'm a newbie to this list just having discovered the CR site and having a desire to ride my vintage bikes again.....

I believe in the early 80's Mr. Fisher had 4 or 5 different frame builders working for him in various parts of the country. The name of Scott Paisley I remember...

Interesting that you mention the "early" days of Fisher Mt bike production. I too was involved from 81 though late 87'. At the time I was in college and working for TET Cycles (Tom Teesdale) in West Branch, IA. Starting as an apprentice by doing the typical grunt work, I slowly developed my skills to include full frame building using either fillet brazing, tig welding or fully lugged framesets. By 1984 or so we were the major (if not only) supplier of high end US built Mt' Bike frames to Gary, These included the fillet brazed Mt. Tam, Mt. Everest and Competition models. I also distinctly remember do a medium run of (100??) fillet brazed Mt' Bike tandems, of which my sister still owns one. Talk about a cool bike...

Up till 1984 or so TET was basically a Fisher only operation producing upwards of 200 frames a month... but branched out to build Marin (when Joe Murray left Fisher). I also remember doing Salsa stems,Quintana Roo triathalon frames, Santa Tandems and Terry's Bikes for Women among many others.

I left TET in 88' to a job in Indianapolis,IN working for a small robotics company (my degreed profession of Software Engineering). But quickly tired of working and living in the big city and so in 1990 left to move to the Washington state. There helping co-found a composites company (Innovative Composite Engineering) originally building our own brand of windsurfing products. Over the past 12 years we've built composite tubing for numerious bicycle companies. The Rock Shox Judy and Answer Racing Manitou shock forks being among them.

I surly miss building framesets.....

I believe Tom is still buiding frames in West Branch,IA.
