I tried to ask the seller a question or two about these via the eBay 'ask seller a question' link but it came back saying there was no such email address or something. Anyone else manage to query the seller?

We really need to find more information on the source for these. I predict that the final bid history for this auction will look like the CR mailing list! It might be easier to track the number of list members who WOULDN'T buy a set.
