This is slightly off the mark. In the current collector car market originality is highly prized. An original-not restored-Maserati Tipo 61-the famous Birdcage-made $2.4 millon at auction last year. This car was raced until 1965 and then put away and maintained but not restored or raced. A restored Birdcage is worth about $500,00. Nicolas Cage bought a fantastic original Ferrari 250GT Europa for something around $1.1 million, again over the odds because it was original. I think originality is the key to collection anything, especially vehicles, which, let's face it, are ment to be used up and repaired. Regarding copyright, most car companies are now enforcing their copyrights because if they don't, they loose them. Typically licences are made available to reputable repro manufacturers at a nominal cost but if you make a repro Ford, Chrysler or especially GM part you better have a licence or you will be asked quite forcefully to obtain one. A similar situtation obtains with most of the English car makes, BMW and M-B. Phil Brown Slightly OT in NoHo, Ca
