As most of you know I run <http://www.uweb.ucsb.edu/~mkirklan/classiclinks.html>. Which started out a year and a half ago as a compilation of Photopoint links so people on the list didn't have to keep reposting their link to the list. After Photopoint folded I had to change it a bit and add some more categories just so I could justify taking up server space. Anyway, at that time I thought about "going pro" and selling add space and linking all kinds of things like my tech stuff. Instead I decided to keep it free and focused for everyone since I didn't have to worry about maintaining it or making it "fancy." By doing it this way I keep a modicum of control and it doesn't take over my life.
Anyway, as people keep asking for more information and new pages they might want to look at the ones we already have. Before creating a new "mousetrap" find out what kind of mice you want to catch. I'm all for the lads on the other side of the Atlantic to make something brilliant and new. Just don't forget to keep us up to date and informed. Some of us provide services to the public for a fee and some don't and there is no better or worse for either. I may provide a few catalogs for free, but I didn't have to work to get them either. Chuck sells the BIG Campagnolo catalog for $75 but there's tons of work involved. Dale provides and excellent list for free and charges a bit for advertising on the web page. It's all good and it really does more good for the hobby than we will ever know.
Lastly I'd like to say I'd still like your submissions for the Classic Bikes Resource page. I won't accept all the links you send, but hey it's my page and I do have a few rules (see below). I am looking for scanned catalogs and articles to put on the page. I'd prefer PDF files but I'll take whatever you've got. Anyway, send anything you'd like to add.
enjoy, Brandon"monkeyman"Ives
Basic rules: 1. It should be your page or a page you have permission to link to. 2. It link needs to be mainly classic lightweight content from whatever era. 3. It must be readable by the iCab web browser on my laptop.
