Hi Stevan, A goldmine for S-A info is Tony Hadland's site:

http://hadland.net/ Here,if you click on the link "how to repair old Sturmey-Archer hubs" you can download all sorts of Sturmey Archer factory manuals detailing dissasembly and assembly of most post war hubs, including ASC. Also there is a link to Pheonix Hub Gear repair, a valuable parts and service recource for obsolete S-A.

5) Would I be better off with a 4 or 5 speed alloy hub? I'm thinking about the ratio spacing. The S5 and the FW have identical ratios save for the super high 150% gear available with the S5 ( recent Sprinter 5 hubs have same ratios as the S5). Most people feel that the FM hub (medium ratio 4 speed) offers the best set of ratios for sporting road use. This item just ended on ebay: http://ebay.com/<blah>
