I'd like to divert the thread to a related subject--at what time did bottom
bracket thread "standards" become linked to their countries of greatest
use--Italian, BSA/USA/Asian, French/Swiss, etc.? I have a late 1940's
Italian bike that has a 22.0mm steerer ID and Swiss BB threads. It would
seem that manufacturers had settled on parts sizes by that time, but maybe
not? Could my bike be the result of post-WWII parts shortages and, say, an
Italian factory buying surplus steerers and bb shells from France?
