what does this have to do with 2 witcomb frames that were made 30 plus years ago? frames did not leave frame shops with paper inside of the tubes-for any reason. the 60s and 70s were not the Dark Ages. people were aware of condensation, and rust, and all things related. to suggest that a maker would provide a 'blotter' in the frame as an aid to boost service life is not founded in anything logical. e-RICHIE chester, ct

Just reporting that this is not an isolated instance: A bike also got repaired in our shop a couple of years ago, it too had a plug of paper down inside the seattube, and had rotted through at that point. Can't remember the make now. As Sherlock Holmes or Spock might surmise.......when all the logical answers don't seem to fit, then maybe "it did come that way from the shop!!"
