I think that just reflects the small volumes originally produced in that size range relative to other sizes, at least at the extreme end (48-49 cm). My wife rides a 49, and I do occasionally see nice old 49 cm framesets / bikes FS on eBay, but not often.
What I don't understand is why so many 62-64 cm frames / bikes are for sale. Are there really that many folks out there that need a frame that large? Or are peole dumping ones that were too big for them all along?
Particularly in the case of Masis/Confentes/Colnagos/etc. there frequently seem to be BIG ones for sale - OK Masiphiles, was Masi's (Cali) production skewed toward large frames?
