That's not the story from Hadland's "The Sturmey-Archer Story." They did buy out a maker in 1908, I think, but that hub was unsuccessful and they contracted S-A to build their hubs with a few small improvements. I've taken them apart many times and 95% of the parts are interchangable with a S-A so this leads me to believe that S-A built most of the parts and BSA stamped and assembled the hubs.
