I've done the same thing several times. Sometimes I've had luck finding the colors I want at the various home building supply type stores (Home Depot, etc.), but if you really want lime or sapphire or some other somewhat wacky color, I suggest you try your local hobby store. They still have the best selection of cool colors. You sometimes have to buy several of the small cans, but where else are you gonna find lime gold metallic, huh? The bright primary colors that are designed for radio controlled airplanes is pretty tuff stuff too. I've also been using the little bottles of Testors enamel as touch-up paint for years. My local hobby shop actually has about five different shades of red available!
