Henry, On one of my bikes I am using a '71 N.R. rear derailluer on a 12-28 7 speed freewheel with a 53/39 chainring combo and a Sachs 8 speed chain. Shift levers are Campy downtube friction. Works just fine. The 53/39 chainring setup was an experiment to see if the rear derailluer would handle the gear spread. I didn't even have to add or remove any chain when I swapped out the 52/42 setup. The front N.R. derailluer worked just fine, too. And the best part is no clicking of shift levers so I could get a jump on the gang!

Steven, Thanks for the heads up on the fork jig. It sure looks cool. Making a fork jigs is easy, and domestic jigs are readily available. The hard tool to make is the frame jig! If you see one of those let me know.
