From what I can understand from Jobst's rather technical expoundings on this topic over the years (see rec.bikes.tech FAQ even ?), tubular tire cement (rubber cement + ?) never dries and so creeps around a bit in use, back and forth I guess. Shellac dries rigid and so has less, er, hysteresis (sp ?) loss.

Tubular tire cement is more durable. Shellac gives minimum rolling resistance.

I wonder how these new TUFO tubular clinchers that hook into the rim beads compare with either of the real tubulars and mounting cements ?
