Listmembers;

It is my honor to announce the "Secret Surprise Brian Baylis 50th Birthday Ride". We're hoping to surprise the old grouch by having a 50 mile bike ride through beautiful Rancho Santa Fe, CA. The terrain is rolling and occassionally a little hilly but the homes and vegatation in this, the most affluent community per capita in the US, is remarkably varied and abundant.

We will meet at the Pizza Port in Solana Beach (on PCH) at 9:30am on Sunday, March 9th, 2003. Depart at 10:00am sharp and head east on Lomas Santa Fe Dr. towards Ranch Santa Fe. The first "landmark" on the tour of RSF will be the large acreage ranch that was the home of Roland R. Sahm, and for a period of time, the home of Masi production in the "barn" of the estate. Wait until you see the "barn"! From there we will head north through RSF and ride around the reservoir and then out towards Olivenhain. We will intersect El Camino Real and ride further north to Palomar Airport Rd. where we will turn towards the coast. Once we meet the coast in Carlsbad we will pay our respects to the original building that housed the Masi Carlsbad, operation.

Heading south on the coast from there we will ride through scenic Leucadia, Encinitas(past the "Self Realization Fellowship" or "Swammies" to the locals), Cardiff-by-the-Sea (the town where Mario Confente passed away), back to Solana Beach where we will eat the Pizza joint out of house and home. I would imagine we're going to pound back a few beers also!

So anyone who is willing to travel down here for a special 50 miles in one of the most beautiful parts of San Diego County is welcome to ride with us. Just make sure you don't blow the surprise and tell the little troll about the big secret! I will be saving multicolored used paint strainers to be reused as party hats for this special occassion.
