Ken -

A question of semantics ...which is why I said that he was _obviously_ an enthusiast (a term which elicits more respect from me, at least, then "collector" btw).

Though I'd have a hard time with any "collector" who "needs" dozens of any of the same thing for his "collection". That doesn't seem logically consistent to me with behaviour that you could legitimately classify as "collecting".

I would suggest that acquiring every 1037/A (as one example) ever made (or offered on eBay) is rather a different kind of "collecting" then someone wishing to own every original Matisse, for instance. "Hoarding" would be a more likely description of the former activity.

(And Dr/Mr Amaki bids quite consistently and successfully for a rather limited number of items on eBay. Items which he surely already has, especially obvious given your reply. That's why I suggested the **liklihood** that his purchases were for resale. But heck, maybe he's "collecting" them as party favours: the principle would be the same. How would I know. Why would I care?)

At any rate, the comments made weren't directed toward "kauzo" at all (whom can buy as many 1037s, etc, as he jolly well pleases, and at any price that he's willing to pay ...and I'm hardly in the class of "enthusiasts" as he is, and no kind of judge of such regardless): you have misread (quite apparently) the intent of the posting.

There was - and is - no slight, no criticism, given nor intended for "kauzo". HE wasn't my point.

My response was made toward the vacuity of the statement that "USA bidders lack huevos" ...and my (I'd hoped, witty) observation was that Paul was having a "blonde moment" ...because really, the price that ANY bidder is willing to pay says absolutely ZERO about what other bidders are perhaps less willing to pay.

Bidding is NOT a logically consistent human activity.

Perhaps I was too tongue-in-cheek, though?

<snip> I know Mr. Amaki personally, and have seen his collection. He is very serious and passionate, and head-first into building his collection and acquiring a good knowledge base. His cycles are featured extensively in the Herse book that was published last year and many of his components and ephemera are shown on Sartoru's web page.

I do not believe he is as much of a dealer/seller as he is a collector. Besides, it's his right to find whatever equitability he can to float his pleasures. I don't begrudge him for that. <snip>
