I stopped using old Silcas... About 2 years ago I was pumping up my tire 115psi & I was just about to stop when all of a sudden the back(top half) of the pump shot out like a bullet! If someone would have been standing behind them it could have really injured them badly, the part that was threaded in just broke off completely. I think they look nice on a display bike but not the greatest or safest pump to actually use ( :..... Be careful

I can't imagine the head making any difference in pumping ability. Is air leaking between head and pump, or valve stem and pump head? Did you open up pump and grease cup? I like Vaseline for pump cups. If it's dry work the Vaseline in for a minute until leather starts feeling pliable again.
