Wayne,
Sorry, but you're very much wrong about Mr. Stone!!!
I have organized a Regina EXTRA ( 360 grames for
116 links as opposed to 245 grames for 114 links ) >>
Geez, you're "worrying" about <5 oz??? I'd find the weight reduction somewhere else and spare myself the headache?? Besides, will you really notice 115gms???
I'd still keep the 'Super Light' intact (my $0.02US)!!"" --------------------
When I read this it started a chain of thought. The SL chain is certainly within the CR timeframe and topic area; though Hilary is certainly a member of the list, debating his sexuality certainly isn't ;-) What struck me though, is what is important and postworthy, and conversely why stuff gets poo-pooed (sp?). Going back a few months and there were numerous posts about the number of bumps around the edges of Campy shift levers. Some talk about "twizzlers". Quite a bit of car talk and roofracks. Seldom if ever did I see a post saying "enough of this, let's get back to the regularly scheduled program". I won't even go into the whole "deconstructing Ken" stuff. Frequent posts along the lines of "My campy (insert part name here) has raised/lower-case lettering/no lettering at all, when did they do that"? A whole lot of stuff about the beauty of mysterious entities called "lugs", and how bicycle tubing is best joined with them ;-) Do these things matter more than saving a few ounces.
I guess, to be more succinct: why does a posting about saving 125g attract a gentle ribbing, but others don't. Is it just whimsy, or are there some hard and fast rules somewhere. And before you suggest the obvious, I *AM* aware of the CR guidelines, I am wondering why there should be such a varying interpretation of them, and why sometimes it's OK, and at other times not, or maybe it depends on who's doing the posting? ------------ Now, for something completely different. Does anyone know the timeframe on Capella lugs please? I have them on a neat old Carlton, and the dating from the Retro Raleigh page doesn't seem to fit well with the info I have on the bike. Many thanks.
