Hi Daniel:

That's great you are doing an event in your region!

I dreamed up the title "Cirque" which just literally means Circus...That came about because we had a swap meet, then a ride, then a vintage bike show equaling three rings so to speak, like in a circus.

I guess in your mind, after hearing us talk about it so much, "Cirque" has become a generalism for a gathering of old bike buffs? In actuality, I view it as a term that uniquely applies to my event itself. After attending the Cirque, Chuck Schmidt started a similar (but different too) event in Southern California and he dreamed up his own name, that of "Velo Rendezvous" That name has a nice nod to the Classic Rendezvous web site and this e-mail list...

So I urge you to come up with your very own unique name and we will support it and be able to differentiate yours from the rest!

<<Or there any rules or sanctioning requirements/standards for a CIrque?

What are some (hopfully cheap) ways to stand up the bikes that are on display? >>

As you can tell from Chuck's event, these are loose and casual events that can be molded to any circumstances. Chuck does not have a huge swap meet as part of the Velo Rendezvous because this location limitations. I would advise you to include whatever aspects that you personally like... After all you will be doing the work!

Display stands are the responsibility of the folks bringing the bikes but I suggest you seek a sponsorship with a good area bike shop for the event. Have them show you the options for bike display stands (The Quality Bicycle Products catalog has at least two good choices..)
