I am following the bar end shifter auction quite closely as I have a set of these that I was planning on offering shortly. Is there anything in particular about these ones that make them more valuable than other 50's Gran Sport bar end shifters? Are these ones the plated brass ones? How can one tell if one has the brass ones? The two that I have are slightly different one from the other: the one has a point to P end of the area surrounding the word Patented, whereas the other has nothing. Is this significant? Are the blue caps of any importance? Does anybody want to take a stab at why this pair is going for such a skyhigh price?

Steven,

I'm wondering, maybe it's simply "marketing?" The ad states the shifters are "the very rare 1950's Campagnolo Gran Sport bar end shifters."

Hey, maybe they are, perhaps they're not?

I believe all but one bidder are Japanese, and even the esteemed Kauzo tossed one in at one point.

Who knows????

If by "caps" you mean covers; I've seen many with the blue ones!

Two days to go on this one.............
