Many builders offered an oval-tubed aero model (this was a nano second before the era of the "funny" bike). These frame's lack of lateral stiffness in exchange for a very slight improvement in aerodynamic drag (cx) was not so wonderful.

The joke at the time was that driving at 60 mph you could increase your gas milage with one of these bikes on the roof rack compared to your regular bike. The was the about the only advantage to speak of.
