I wouldn't say that was true, maybe the paint was just very similar across the Peugeot line, while one expected it to be better on top models. Of course very few older European bikes had paint jobs anywhere near the standards of Joe Bell or other current top US painters.

One thing I always wondered... Why was the paint so much better on CArbolite 103 frames than on the 531 frames???
