Yes, as Roy Drinkwater observes, in the scene in BREAKING AWAY where Dave drafts the Cinzano truck: "He had a beautiful orange Masi with yellow brake cables sticking up, remember those?"

Actually, I believe it was called "Competition Red." But not only do "I remember those, " but my own 'oragne' (call it Red if you are a purist, it still IS orange) with those 'yellow brake cables sticking up" 1976 50cm Masi Gran Crit is sitting about three feet behind me here in my home office. No, I didn't have it repainted to match Dave's bike from BREAKING AWAY, my bike was painted this way when I acquired it. I was the only Calrsbad Masi I could find in original (and nearly unused) condition in my size and simply brought back to 100% by Jim and the crew at Cyclart to be the pride and joy of my vintage collection. I hadn't seen BREAKING AWAY in years and it was about a month after my bike was shipped back to me that I got the DVD.

The only problem I have with owning a 'clone' of the movie bike is that whenever I watch the movie, my wife rags on me about 'going out and buying a Masi just like that.' I get a bit tired of having to say, "Honey, it was the first really nice one I could find in my size, and it just happened to come in that color, honest."

What is worse is when she drops me on a ride and leans over and makes the '50mph' gesture from the movie as she sits up to relax when I poop out behind her :-)
