Dave asked, about Mick's Altenberger Syncron dual-pivot side-pull brakes (from the 1960s?):

"are these the orginal dual pivot design that pretty much makes up all brakes being sold today?"

I can't speak for Mick, but I would be surprised if there were any serious production units in aluminum before these. My reasoning may, of course be faulty. My sense is pretty strong that Al was rare in brakes (and levers) before WW-II, so that would take care of the "ancient regime." I haven't seen anything that I know to be earlier (unless it was the GB that was identical, like Weinmann and DiaCompe). So, from two tenuous assertions I draw the uncertain conclusion that these were the first mass-produced dual-pivot side-pull of modern construction.

Now, I bet someone finds me wrong, which would be neat!
