Thanks for all the interesting replies and the off list welcomes. I think, Chris Kelly based his Gitane guess mostly on the chainstays, those PIA french stays, i think he called them which were sometimes difficult for him to get when he replaced them. A few of the links I pulled up on 70's and eighties gitanes have similar stays and somewhat similar lugs. Anyhow, thanks for the help. Any other comments are more than welcome, on or offlist.
