Bob, and List --- The transliteration of "Volumetrica" on the downtube of the supposed Russian Masi looks OK to me. There's usually no exact rendering of a word from one language to another, but this is about as close as you could get to rendering the English pronunciation of "Volumetrica" in Russian characters. If Volumetrica is a real Italian word (???) and not just a made-up thing, then the Russian rendering of the Italian pronunciation might be somewhat different. To repeat, this one works for the English pronunciation. There are actually list members who are better to address the "correctness" of the transliteration into Russian characters of these words or names than I. As the old saying goes, "Those who know do not speak." They're remaining silent, perhaps smiling inwardly at my amateurish pronouncements. The fact that I'm willing to write anything at all is an indication that I may not have a complete grasp of this. Maybe list member Vladislav Luskin could comment more accurately on this. He had something to say about the bike in an earlier CR Digest. My first post, though, is not in question; the rendering of "Masi" into Russian on the downtube has a character which is not in the Russian alphabet. Maybe that's why the Russians never rode these bikes, eh? Put off by the Americans' poor Russian. --- David Faulkner in Sacramento where rain prevented my noon-time ride home.
