Yes indeed, reigning World Champion Mario Cipollini won his 41st career stage to tie Binda, then his 42nd to surpass him. A few days later he retired from the Giro after a crash in the last corner before the finishing straight, but the objective was achieved. Those who watched Giro coverage on OLN know that Cipo's quest for the record dominated the coverage in the first half of this year's event. It was alleged the organizers put several flat stages early in the event to be sure Cipo captured the record. There is currently considerable contraversy because Cipollini's team was not selected for the Tour de France, so I'd think you can find discussion of Cipo on numerous cycling sites.
