I've riden one version or another of American Classic seatposts for as long as Shook has been making them. Never broken one. I have had the bolt that adjust the seat angle come loose and even fall out. It only happens when they are new so I check the bolt frequently in the first month. I had a saddle fall off last year while descending a hill in a cyclocross race. I didn't dare stop and had to walk back up the hill to retrieve my saddle.
I'm delighted he had such a good experience. One warning: the lower plate (the one that the rear set screw pushes) of the early versions was too soft. Mine developed a large dent while repeatedly loosening. American Classic was very decent about sending me the updated part, and being very (American) Classic about it. It is a strange feeling to have the seat gradually loosen on a long ride, and realize that there was an underlying problem that would not be fixed in the field. (At one point, I actually glued in a steel piece to take the stress there).
Again, I have no complaints, but two suggestions: (1) As with everything else, be conscious of what it is saying, and check often. (2) Think about the updated plate, particularly if you are relatively heavy or ride with the saddle far back.
