My version of "The Treatment": Slather the bolt, wedge and clamping mechanism, and the surfaces inside the handlebar clamping cavity with antiseize compound before assembly. After the first ride, check the allen bolt for tightness with an allen key. Never had a problem with slipping or creaking; but then again, that's just my experience.
If anyone's maintenance routine calls for replacing a 1R with a 1A... you know where to send the discarded stem.
