regarding the intro date of the Cinelli Bivalent hubs:

"In 1961 Cinelli released the now very collectable Bivalent hubs which made the front and rear wheels interchangeable. By flicking the quick-release lever, you could remove the wheel and the freewheel remained attached to the frame, chain and derailleur undisturbed. This idea might have been too gimmicky for the '60s and didn't catch on, but I have a feeling that if it were released again today, it would do quite well. In 1962 came the first plastic-shell saddle, the Unicantor (sic), and in '63 the New Concept aluminum bars."
