Josh,

AVA did indeed make a stem with an elongated groove in it's head but they rarely show up for sale. My vote for your bike's replacement for the AVA stuff would be a Philippe or Atax nutted aluminium stem and a Philippe D352 bar with the bike racer engraving. That bar is very, very cool in my opinion. The stem would be period correct and few would know that the bar was typically found durring the 70's not 60's. Yep, that's my recomendation and I'm sticking to it!
