Wayne,
I too use Autosol on the recommendation of my wife who spent over 15 years as an object conservator (10 of those for the Canadian Government). They used Autosol in some of their metal cleaning as it is a fairly stable and non-agressive cleaner (a combination of a fine clay mixed with oil and solvent) - it is always a good idea to clean the residue off with a little varsol and, as with any of the abrasive cleaners, to wash the part thoroughly with a mild soap and a clean water rinse after use. Some of the other polishing compounds definitely require this process as they are often acdidic in nature and can continue to react with the metal if not fully removed.
