Walt,

Don't want to be seen to be adding to the attaboys (and upset our dear lord and master of the list), but, I do agree with the tenor of your comments. I believe that the network of contacts and "friends" which we all make through this list is one of its great virtues. Although we are, on occasion, in competition with each other for scarce bicycle paraphernalia, in truth, we are all joined in a common cause - the pursuit of our shared hobby and in prolonging the useful lives of classic bicycles and parts.

That said, I know that there are many favours done between list members in furthering our hobby. Many of these people we will never meet, but, they give of themselves freely and go out of their way to be helpful. Especially important are offers to help when items are in a different country and occasionally not accessible through usual channels - E-Bay "ship only to" being a classic example. I too have to thank Bruce for time he has spent searching for a project for me - especially making phone calls on my behalf. A week or so ago, with his help, I was pursuing a late-60s Viking on UK E-Bay (I lost to a sniper at the very last second). Not to worry, I have another British acquaintance who is known to many of the British crew, but is not on the CR list, who has lined up something rather special in the way of a frame for me.

There are many pints owed by me! And I hope one day I can return the favour for someone else. Thank you all.

>This is a follow up to the post earlier this month regarding the poor shipping and packing job that I got with a classic bike. A great deal of members emailed me offlist regarding the issue so I am summing it up by saying the seller from Ebay sent me an email to say he would refund my shipping considering that he didn't do his best in the shipping area. It is a good offer to at least try and make right a bad situation and I will give him credit for attempting to make good on the auction. Of course we will wait and see if he does indeed follow up on the offer to refund the shipping as well. Unfortunately the item was less than accurately described as well which left me without a ride.

Bruce Robbins and Bob Reid...as well as some other UK and Scottish friends have been superbe in assisting with various things. Bruce is currently making phone calls and setting up all kinds of goodies for me so I gotta say thanks to the chaps on the other side of the pond. With any luck. I will be posting some picks of a flying scot sometime in the future.
